255 West Street – A Mixed Retail and Commercial Banking Center
Experiencing significant growth and expanded opportunities, Connecticut River Bank, N.A., started a major initiative to renovate its 255 West Street facility in late 2010. The move announced the banks position as a competitive player in the local market, investing in Keene and showing its commitment to the community.
President and CEO Gary Gray felt it was critical that architectural and construction contracts be awarded, where possible, to local companies and sub-contractors. The bank chose established firms Weller & Michal Architects Inc. and American Construction Inc. to design and build the project.
The project provides much needed offices and conference rooms, and assists branch employees better serve their customers. Architect Charles Michal notes that changes to the exterior of the building give this West Street address a fresh new look much more in keeping with Keene’s Master Plan.
The new façade increases the bank’s visibility locally. The design relocates the New Hampshire Trust Company from its former location to the west end of the building, with new offices overlooking Ashuelot Park.
The design provides a more inviting bank entrance, an expanded lobby and customer service area, a redesigned and landscaped parking lot with pedestrian-friendly access from West Street, redesigned store fronts for all businesses and a large landscaped patio along the front of the building.
The energy-efficient lighting including LED lighting technologies and sensor controlled “daylight harvesting” was designed by Charles Michal.
Weller & Michal also provided Interior Design Services, selecting the selection of a furnishing vendor as well as developing all interior finish palettes. The custom lobby desk and teller line casework were designed by Weller & Michal as well.
