Distinctive features, finishes, and construction techniques or examples of craftsmanship that characterize a historic property should be preserved. New jamb, head, and sill trim replaces the original rotted trim features. A profiled edge on the inside of the head and jamb trim and the characteristic feature of windows slightly recessed beyond the brick face helps maintain the historic character of these structures.

Architect: Charles J. Michal, AIA Owner: Keene Housing Authority Location: Keene, New Hampshire Square Footage :3,800 SF In the spring of 2001 a campaign to save two pre-Civil War brick buildings located in Keene was undertaken by private citizens as a developer planned their demolition. Recognizing the significance of these buildings to local history, the "Save the Mill Buildings NOW" committee was formed.
At the same time, the Keene Housing Authority was interested in expanding activity space at Harper Acres. With space limited in the current community room, the perfect solution was to move the historic buildings to Harper Acres and create a Congregate Resource Center.
The design met the needs for additional community space while retaining and restoring the historic exterior. The two buildings were also connected by an activity porch. The interior design includes a kitchenette, dining area, laundry facility, reading area, exercise area, small meeting room and a computer lab for use by the residents.
