The Board of Trustees of the Library wanted to expand and relocate their small 500 SF facility from one, nearly inaccessible party of the Nelson Commons to a more user friendly site. They were interested, not only in providing ample bookshelf space in an open well-lit space, but in maintaining the historical and picturesque qualities of the snall New England Town Commons.

By locating an entry lobby in a connectore between the new building and the existing Town Hall, we were able to solve handicap accessibility, bathrooms, and circulation issues for both buildings.

Though the two buildings retain a certain stand-along quality, the traditional exterior detailing in the design allows them to fit together efficiently, and to blend unobtrusively with the historical village setting.
